ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have agreed to a trade with the Los Angeles Rams to acquire 2022 second- and third-round draft picks in exchange for outside linebacker Von Miller, the team announced Monday.
Miller, the Super Bowl 50 MVP, departs Denver as the franchise's all-time sack leader. He posted seven double-digit sack seasons as he earned three first-team All-Pro nods and eight Pro Bowl appearances while in Denver.
The 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year posted a career-high 18.5 sacks in 2012 and nearly won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2016. In 2020, Miller was named a unanimous selection to the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team.
Miller's shining moment, though, came in the 2015 postseason, as the former second-overall pick recorded five sacks, six quarterback hits, an interception and two forced fumbles across a two-game stretch that included the AFC Championship and Super Bowl 50. In Denver's win over the Panthers, Miller recorded 2.5 sacks, six tackles, two quarterback hits, one pass defensed and two forced fumbles. Miller earned MVP honors for his performance.
Miller has appeared in seven games this year and recorded 4.5 sacks.
"I paid respect to Von and what he's done here in his career," Head Coach Vic Fangio told KOA NewsRadio of his message to the team. "He's been a great player, been a great teammate, been a great ambassador for the Broncos. [We] all wished the best moving forward, told him I was going to miss him personally, as I'm sure a lot of the players will. We're moving forward with the guys we have, with the guys we had play yesterday, and we're going to find a way to keep winning football games."
When the trade is processed, the Broncos will have five picks in the top 100 selections in the 2022 NFL Draft.
