Canelo vs Plant weigh-in results and stare down video - Bad Left Hook

Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant are set for Saturday night’s undisputed super middleweight title fight, both making weight today in Las Vegas.

Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KO) came in at 168 lbs, right on the limit, with Plant (21-0, 12 KO) just under at 167.

The two were kept separate as everyone wanted to avoid another incident like we got in September, when they threw hands at their first press conference. But there was an intense staredown and plenty of jawing from both sides. Both men looked very serious.

“I told him, ‘You will see tomorrow. It’s time.’ I don’t need to say anything. It’s time. He will feel something different, believe me,” Canelo said. “For every action, there’s a reaction.”

“Saturday night you’ve got your first undisputed champ and his name is Caleb Plant,” Plant, obviously, stated. “I love being the underdog. Cheer for him all you want, boo me all you want.” Plant said he has no nerves: “This is what I do, I was born for this, this is my destiny.”

Bad Left Hook will have full coverage tomorrow night, Saturday, November 6, starting at 9 pm ET for the full Canelo-Plant card.

Here’s the video of the weigh-in if you missed it live:

Ex-super middleweight titleholder Anthony Dirrell (33-2-2, 24 KO) will be in the co-feature, hoping to impress against Marcos Hernandez (15-4-2, 3 KO), and make no mistake, if the 37-year-old Dirrell wants big fights next year, he probably needs to impress. Both fighters weighed in at 168½, with the fight having a contract limit of 169, so they’re both good.

Former 122 lb titlist Rey Vargas (34-0, 22 KO) will be featured against Leonardo Baez (21-4, 12 KO), moving up to featherweight for the 10-round bout. Vargas came in at 125, a pound under the normal 126 lb limit, while Baez came in at 126½, which should be OK, as non-title fights often have a pound of wiggle room.

Elvis Rodriguez (11-1-1, 10 KO) and Juan Pablo Romero (14-0, 9 KO) will open the pay-per-view with a 10-round fight at a 142 lb catchweight, with Rodriguez weighing in at 142 and Romero at 143, meaning Romero has an hour to lose the extra pound. I’d expect the fight to go on either way, but if he can’t get down to 142 he’ll face a financial penalty or whatever.
