Alabama Football: Crimson Tide Post-Spring Depth Chart - Bama Hammer

Alabama Football

Gary Cosby-USA TODAY Sports

A short-handed Alabama Football team finished its spring season Saturday afternoon. Some roster questions gained partial answers during the 12 practices and three spring scrimmages. Nothing is final until Nick Saban says it is. Because of injury or COVID restrictions, so many players missed the A-Day game, any depth chart projection includes guesses.

Nick Saban said more than a dozen players, in competition for two-deep roles, were not available for the A-Day game. The Alabama Football Head Coach might have understated the number. Based on the long list of players unable to play in the game, the number of missing, potential two-deep players appeared to be closer to 20. Past performances for returning players can be relied on to plug them into a depth chart. Doing the same for true freshmen, like Jacorey Brooks and Christian Leary is impossible.

Enough information has been either reported or leaked out through Alabama football insiders, a work-in-progress depth chart can be projected. The projection below is not organized as a traditional two-deep. There is too much unknown for that. To include multiple formation options, more than 11 starters are identified in offense and defense position groups. Special teams are not included in this projection. Based on the A-Day game, a consistent punter is yet to be identified. A starting punt returner is also too fluid to project.

A post-spring projection is a worthwhile exercise, but Alabama football fans can expect much to change after the first scrimmage of fall camp. No summer enrolling players are included as starters in this projection.
