The Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed that they’ve traded to acquire Baltimore Ravens LT Orlando Brown Jr., pending the completion of a physical.

When Brown Jr. officially arrives in Kansas City, he’ll be tasked with finding a new jersey number and it might not be such an easy decision for him. With the Ravens, Brown Jr. wore the No. 78 jersey. It’s the number that he wore at the University of Oklahoma, but it also carries a deeper significance. It’s the jersey number that his father, the late Orlando Brown Sr., wore for a portion  NFL career while playing with the Ravens.

The entire reason that Brown Jr. wanted a trade out of Baltimore was to be able to live out the vision that his father had for him. That vision was to play the left tackle position.

So why won’t Brown Jr. be able to wear the No. 78 jersey in Kansas City? Well, the number is one of the 10 jersey numbers to be officially retired by the Chiefs. It was worn by Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker, Bobby Bell, who is known as one of the greatest linebackers in franchise history. Now, Bell is still heavily involved in the organization. It’s possible that Brown Jr. could explain the significance and approach him about wearing the jersey.

Brown Jr.’s father also wore the No. 77 jersey with both the Cleveland Browns and the Ravens. That number is currently worn by veteran Chiefs offensive lineman Andrew Wylie. It’s possible that he could make a deal to acquire that number from Wylie.

It’s also possible that Brown Jr. decides to choose an entirely different jersey number to start this new chapter in Kansas City. What jersey number would you like to see Brown Jr. wearing, Chiefs Kingdom? Be sure to share your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
