The Wolverines had a promising start to the drive as A.J. Henning rushed for 29 yards on an end-around. But two plays later, Cade McNamara had tight end Erick All wide open in the middle, but he threw it a bit behind him. The ball deflected off All’s hands, and Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell was there for the interception.

McNamara is 4 of 5 passing for 20 yards.

5:27 – Iowa drive starts on own 25

An impressive drive from the Hawkeyes stalled inside the Michigan 10-yard line. They had a key conversion on third-and-7 at midfield to extend the drive. A 28-yard completion to Charlie Jones gave Iowa a first-and-goal from the 9. Two short gains on the ground forced a third-and-5, and DJ Turner once again had great coverage on the third-down play to force an incompletion. Iowa kicked a 22-yard field goal to get on the board.

5:37 – Michigan drive starts on own 25

Michigan used some trickery on the first play of the drive, and it worked to perfection. After Cade McNamara lateralled to Donovan Edwards, the freshman RB looked up field and aired it out to a streaking Roman Wilson, who hauled in the first pass down the Michigan sideline and was off to the end zone for a touchdown.

6:38 – Iowa drive starts on own 25

Spencer Petras took a shot down field to Charlie Jones on first down, but CB DJ Turner had him well-covered. After a 4-yard run on second down, Petras went to the air again on third down and had to throw it away after pressure from LB Junior Colson.

8:35 – Michigan drive starts on own 20

Hassan Haskins started with a 6-yard run, and freshman QB J.J. McCarthy came in on the second play. However, Michigan was flagged for a false start, and Cade McNamara reentered and delivered back-to-back 6-yard completions to running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. With a fresh set up downs, McCarthy came back in and handed off to Corum for a 67-yard touchdown run. The highlight of the play, though, was McCarthy busting his tail downfield to block right alongside Corum.

13:17 – Iowa drive starts on own 26

The Wolverines caught a break a couple of times on Iowa’s opening drive. After a Spencer Petras 21-yard completion to put the Hawkeyes in the red zone, the Hawkeyes ran a trick play with a Gavin Williams halfback pass. He had a wide-open fullback Monte Pottebaum in the end zone but overthrew him by a hair. David Ojabo blew up a Tyler Goodson run play on third-and-five to force a 33-yard field goal, which Caleb Shudak missed wide-right. Daxton Hill also had a pass interference call earlier in the drive that kept the possession alive for the Hawkeyes.

Very conservative start offensively for the Wolverines. Roman Wilson had a nice gain on first down, catching a swing pass for 7 yards. A Hassan Haskins run up the middle on second down went for no game, and a reverse to WR Mike Sainristil was blown up by Riley Moss, leading to a three-and-out.

That can change Saturday night. No. 2 Michigan (11-1) will look to get by No. 15 Iowa (10-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.

Both team’s have elite defenses, with each allowing under 18 points per game. However, the Wolverines have a significant advantage offensively. Led by a dominant run game, they rank second in the Big Ten in scoring and yards per game. They will have to take care of the football against an opportunistic Hawkeyes defense that leads that nation with 22 interceptions.

Iowa has played two quarterbacks this season -- Spencer Petras and Alex Padilla -- but neither have been very efficient. Petras, who has 1,532 passing yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions, is slated to get the start Saturday. Like Michigan with Hassan Haskins, Iowa leans heavily on running back Tyler Goodson, who has 238 carries. for 1,101 yards in 2021.

Michigan leads the all-time series 42-15-4. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is 1-1 against the Hawkeyes, winning 10-3 in 2019 and losing 14-13 in 2016.
