Alabama and Ohio State traded scores early, and the Tide led only 21-17 with five minutes remaining before halftime. But Alabama scored twice in the final four minutes of the second quarter to blow the game open and held off the Buckeyes in the second half. DeVonta Smith caught 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns in the first half before exiting the game in the third quarter with a hand injury. Mac Jones threw for 464 yards, the second-most in school history, and threw for five touchdowns. The national title is Nick Saban’s sixth at Alabama, tying him with Bear Bryant, and his seventh overall.
