Kellen Mond leads Reese's Senior Bowl standouts, wins MVP - The Athletic

Kellen Mond didn't enter Saturday's Reese's Senior Bowl with the buzz of some of the top quarterbacks available in the 2021 NFL Draft, but in a week in Mobile, Ala., the former Texas A&M QB did his best to improve his stock.

Mond went 13 of 25 for 173 yards and two touchdowns to win Most Valuable Player honors despite his American team losing 27-24 to the National team Saturday.

Mond is the sixth consecutive quarterback to win MVP at the Senior Bowl, the annual NFL showcase game for college seniors and eligible underclassmen. Among those quarterbacks were NFL starters Dak Prescott, Daniel Jones and Justin Herbert.

"It's a huge sign of everything I've worked for," the 6-foot-3, 217-pounder said of the honor. "Obviously I've had some ups and downs during my career, but to finally come out here on a huge stage and perform the way I wanted to and execute, it was definitely huge."

After falling behind 16-13 in the third quarter, the National team held the American team scoreless until the final 49 seconds of the fourth quarter, taking a 27-16 lead into the final minute. Arkansas’ Feleipe Franks passed for 122 yards and a touchdown to lead the National team, which was coached by Brian Flores and the Dolphins' staff. Matt Rhule and the Panthers' staff coached the American team.

Offensive Player of the Game went to Louisville’s Dez Fitzpatrick (six catches, 90 yards), and Tulane’s Cam Sample (seven tackles, 0.5 sack) was named Defensive Player of the Game.
