Chargers ask to interview Giants' Jason Garrett for head coach vacancy - New York Post

Jason Garrett is back on the NFL coaching carousel.

The Chargers, who fired coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, have requested an interview with the Giants offensive coordinator for their vacancy, according to NFL Network.

Garrett, 54, spent 10 seasons as Cowboys head coach before he was not brought back after last season. He went 85-67, but made just three playoff appearances before joining Joe Judge’s staff this season. Garrett does have experience mentoring young quarterbacks such as Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones. The Chargers have one of the NFL’s top young signal-callers in Justin Herbert.

Garrett leaving to take a head coaching job could make one of the Giants’ toughest offseason decisions for them. There is speculation the team could move on from Garrett after he guided an offense that ranked second to last in the NFL in total yards and points scored ahead of only the Jets. He also did not help Jones take a leap forward in his second season.

The Jets have asked to interview Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
