16. Louisiana (10-1) — Louisiana beats UTSA 31-24 in the First Responder Bowl. The victory locks up a second-straight season with double-digit wins under Billy Napier, who announced his decision to return to Louisiana after his name became strongly tied to the Auburn search. Napier is 21-4 in his last two seasons and has two bowl victories.
17. North Carolina (8-4) — Down two superstars at running back, North Carolina lost 41-27 to Texas A&M in the Orange Bowl. Quarterback Sam Howell threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns in the game. But UNC’s running game averaged just 2.6 yards per carry without Javonte Williams and Michael Carter.
“We've just got to get better,” Howell said. “Just everyone in the program just has to get better. I just told our guys in the locker room, remember this feeling, and everyone that's coming back, just use this feeling to motivate you in the locker room because we can get so much better.”
18. Liberty (10-1) — Hugh Freeze’s name was a common one as coaching search season got hot, but it clearly did not affect his team’s focus on a bowl appearance for the Flames. Liberty, with 30 days between games because of COVID-19, took out undefeated Coastal Carolina, 37-34, in overtime. Malik Willis ran for four touchdowns, and Alex Barbir won another game with a field goal, this time from 44 yards out.
19. Oklahoma State (8-3) — Mike Gundy’s 2020 season ends with the highly-coveted Cheez-It bath after defeated Miami, 37-34, in Orlando. With Chuba Hubbard opted out and Tylan Wallace done after the first half, Spencer Sanders turned his attention to Brennan Presley, who caught three touchdown passes.
20. Texas (7-3) — The Longhorns ended the season with a win over Colorado, but the waves did not stop there. Texas fired coach Tom Herman the day after the College Football Playoff semifinals and tab Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian as its next head coach. A former head coach at Washington and USC, Sarkisian is officially back as the leader of a major program. And he certainly has momentum after what went down last night in the title game.
