Alabama coach Nick Saban on Wednesday evening was named the 2020 winner of the Bear Bryant coach of the year award.
It is the second time Saban has won the award, which has been given annually since 1986 by the American Heart Association. The first time was in 2003 when he led LSU to a national championship.
The seven other finalists were Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly, Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher, Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell, Oregon’s Mario Cristobal, Iowa State’s Matt Campbell and Indiana’s Tom Allen.
Saban joins Gene Stallings in 1992 as Alabama coaches to win.
The award is one of several nationally naming the coach of the year but the only selected after the postseason. Chadwell won the Associated Press’ award, Eddie Robinson award and Walter Camp coach of the year.
