Eagles News: Jalen Hurts’ stock is up - Bleeding Green Nation

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Eagles stock up - stock down leading up to preseason game No. 2 - PhillyVoice
QB Jalen Hurts: Hurts has mostly been up and down, and early in camp the offense in general put together some of ugliest practices I’ve ever covered. That wasn’t all on Hurts, but his performances didn’t help. More recently, however, Hurts has looked much better. He made some nice throws in the preseason game against the Steelers, and he very clearly outperformed Cam Newton and Mac Jones in a pair of joint practices with the New England Patriots this week. His accuracy has improved over the last week or two, and he has demonstrated a command of the offense.

EAGLES INJURY UPDATES: The big news is that DeVonta Smith (knee) participated in some team drills today. He didn’t see any targets (perhaps intentionally) and he didn’t participate in 1-on-1. He was officially listed as a “limited” participant. Going to guess he won’t play much — if at all — on Thursday night but he might be full go next week with the Eagles practicing against the New York Jets.

Patriots training camp notebook: Quarterbacks have a strong second day of joint practices with the Eagles - Pats Pulpit
Defending tight ends is an issue: Led by Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz, the Eagles have plenty of size and receiving talent at the tight end position. It gave the Patriots some problems during Tuesday’s practice. Zach Ertz scored a touchdown on a corner route against Kyle Dugger, with Goedert beating Adrian Phillips for another score down the left sideline; he later also scored once against Joejuan Williams. All three of them also registered pass breakups as well, even though an argument can be made that Phillips’ actually might have been defensive holding.

Eagles’ K’Von Wallace heckles Patriots’ Cam Newton | Young DB explains his strategy - NJ.com
Following the series of checkdowns, Newton acknowledged Wallace, calling him “42.” Wallace was running with the second-team defense in the second joint practice, and he was mostly facing off against first-round QB Mac Jones during workouts. That’s why Wallace was able to see Newton make checkdown pass after checkdown pass in team drills. “I had to let him know like, ‘Not only are you throwing checkdowns, you’re doing it over and over again like you’ve mastered it, like you’re the king of it,’” Wallace said. “I had to let him know, ‘You’re the king of checkdowns.’ But any way you can get in the quarterback’s head, that’s the best approach

At a crossroads, Jordan Howard fights to extend his NFL career - PE.com
“2020 was definitely a difficult year for me football-wise, but I had to look at myself in the mirror and see what I had to work on,” Howard said. “I didn’t blame other people. I had to see where I went wrong last year and what I could fix to try to get myself in the best shape I could be and come in in great shape, great weight, to give myself a chance.” A chance. A chance at ... staying in the league? “I understand where I was and how the league felt about me,” Howard said. “It was all on me.” So, Howard did something about it. The weight that he put on and the conditioning that he lost following a midseason shoulder/arm injury in 2019 impacted him a season later. Instead of running with his normal power and drive, Howard felt sluggish. He didn’t finish his runs and he couldn’t move would-be tacklers

According to reports and from the team, the Denver Broncos have signed former Philadelphia Eagles running back/receiver Adrian Killins to their roster.

49ers waive QB Josh Rosen; claim CB Davontae Harris off waivers from the Ravens - Niners Nation
The Josh Rosen experiment has officially come to an end. Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the 49ers have released the former first-round QB. To put it kindly, Rosen did not have the greatest camp. Too often, he put the ball in harm’s way. Unfortunately, that was no different against the Chiefs in the preseason, and it became evident that Rosen wasn’t the QB3 the 49ers have been searching for. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the plan for next Sunday’s game against the Chargers is for Nate Sudfeld to receive all of the playing time after Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance.

Hard Knocks episode two recap: Cowboys face off against Rams, Cardinals - Blogging The Boys
As mentioned, Lamb has had an outstanding camp and preseason, and the show took a moment to eavesdrop on Jerry Jones and Michael Irving gushing over him. We also got to find out that Lamb is all about smelling good. Meanwhile, on the field, he just keeps making catches. That doesn’t satisfy him. He’s a player who always wants more, and that is very good for the man continuing the legacy of number 88 for the Cowboys.

Panthers send Pride to injured reserve, trade Little as they trim roster to 85 - Cat Scratch Reader
Little’s trade is only surprising because the Panthers were able to get something for a player they likely would have released. Between injuries and poor play, the offensive tackle never made an impression with the Panthers despite the former general manager having traded up to acquire him in the second round. Little is on his way to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for their first seventh round pick in the 2022 draft. [BLG Note: Doesn’t seem like anyone wants Andre Dillard. Or the Eagles’ asking price is too high.]

Deshaun Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, calls press conference for Wednesday - PFT
Attorney Rusty Hardin has resisted engaging in a battle of sound bites and press conferences with Tony Buzbee regarding the civil and criminal cases involving Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. On Wednesday, however, Hardin will hold his second press conference since the various civil cases were filed against Watson.
