The Denver Broncos announced that head coach Vic Fangio has named Teddy Bridgewater the team’s starting quarterback heading into the regular season. This will put Drew Lock in as the backup.
On Tuesday, Fangio had been noncommittal to a timeline on a decision at quarterback noting that both players were very close last week. He wanted the decision to be made at the right time saying, “We just want to do it at the right time, meaning the right time obviously for the players involved, for the team involved, and for everybody. We don’t play another game—we’ve got 19 days.”
The right time apparently was the next day. With a commitment at quarterback, they have 18 days to dedicated to Teddy Bridgewater as the starter to prepare for Week 1 against the New York Giants.
Bridgewater will be the 11th (I think!) different starting quarterback the Broncos have fielded since Peyton Manning retired and more than likely the search for a long-term option at the position will continue in 2022. For now, however, it is Bridgewater’s team and with this defense anything is possible.
