Red Sox's epic collapse is 'frustrating' Alex Cora - New York Post

In the span of three weeks, the Red Sox went from a playoff lock to a major question mark.

Frustrations are boiling over in Boston after the Red Sox were swept by the Yankees in Tuesday’s doubleheader, sending the former AL East leaders to third place and outside the postseason picture amid a 6-13 spiral.

“It’s frustrating we are not playing the way we’re capable of,” manager Alex Cora said after the Red Sox went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday. “It’s been going for a while in a sense the offense is not where we want to be.”

The Red Sox blew a 8.5 game-lead in the AL East and now trail the Rays by five games in the division.

In this brutal stretch, the Red Sox have just two wins in 13 games against the Rays, Yankees and Blue Jays and have been outscored by 30 runs in those contests.

But there is hope for Boston in the form of its schedule. After the series finale in The Bronx, the Red Sox have a six-game homestand against the woeful Rangers and Twins.

Nine of their last 14 games are against the lowly Nationals and Orioles.

“It’s a fun summer and we’re playing meaningful games,” Cora said. “But we have to be better … we’ve got to play better. That’s the bottom line.”
