Pregame injury report: The latest on several Michigan players ahead of bout vs. Northwestern - 247Sports

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — It appears that the Michigan football team will be somewhat shorthanded when it hosts Northwestern Saturday afternoon.

As the sixth-ranked Wolverines warmed up to take on the Wildcats, several players looked on in street clothes, presumably out for the game. Most notable among them was Trevor Keegan, who missed parts of Michigan's win at Nebraska with a shoulder injury.

As first reported by 247Sports' Brice Marich, reserve defensive ends Taylor Upshaw and Gabe Newburg were also watching warmups from the sidelines. Newburg hasn't played all season, while Upshaw has recorded three tackles, 1.5 sacks and five quarterback pressures this season.

Two offensive linemen viewed as questionable at the beginning of the week, Chuck Filiaga and Zak Zinter, were seen warming up. They could be game-time decisions for the game. Update as of 11:30 am ET: Filiaga and usual reserve Karsen Barnhart were Michigan's starting guards during the 11-on-11 segment on warmups.

Wide receiver Roman Wilson arrived to the stadium with a splint on his wrist, but participated in some initial (non-contact) warmup drills. Wilson, who missed the Wolverines' game at Nebraska, has 12 targets, nine receptions and 145 receiving yards this season. Update as of 11:15 am ET: Wilson had his wrist wrapped, but was going through full warmups and in uniform, running routes and catching passes with receivers.

Despite the injuries, Michigan (3-0 Big Ten, 6-0 overall) is seen as a heavy favorite against the Wildcats (1-2, 3-3). Northwestern lost the vast maority of its starters from last season's run to the Big Ten title game, and struggled against Power-Five competition before beating Rutgers at home last week, 21-7.

Though a heavy favorite and undoubtedly thinking about a top-10 matchup against undefeated Michigan State next week, the Wolverines insist that they aren't overlooking Northwestern, who gave Michigan a significant scare when the two teams clashed in 2018 in Evanston.

"The team has been very locked in," Harbaugh said. "Daily, weekly. I think I’ve really continued to be pleased with is how they attack every single day. They didn’t practice Friday, they didn’t practice Saturday. They came back Sunday and we had as good a practice in terms of guys moving around, knowing what they were doing. Locked in, focused as I’ve ever seen a team come back after a two-and-a-half day break. That was really exciting.

"As far as Northwestern, continually, you just see the Northwestern team, they just get better every single week. This year, last year, the year before that, the year before that. When you play Northwestern in the middle of the season, later in the season, they’re really formidable."
