Weather Forecast for Saturday’s Cincinnati Football Game at Notre Dame Stadium - One Foot Down

The Cincinnati Bearcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Saturday amid temperatures in the high 70s, according to the latest Accuweather forecast.

The weather prediction company’s outlook also includes a 25 percent chance of rain in the area of Notre Dame Stadium at kickoff, and increasing to 71 percent by 5 p.m. The thermometer, however, will continue to hover in the high 70s / low 80s for the duration of the game.

If you’re heading to campus early for tailgating, to check out the bookstore or catch the ABC57 pregame show, expect temperatures in the mid-60s, partly sunny skies and little chance of rain. (I think I’d try to shake “Rocket” Ismail’s hand at the Joyce Center at noon, but that’s just me.)

Notre Dame last played on on Oct. 2 in 2010, when they kicked off at 8:12 p.m. local time against Boston College at Alumni Stadium. The temperature at the start of that game was 52 degrees. The last home game on Oct. 2 was in 2004, a 41-16 loss to Purdue. The temperature at the 1:37 p.m. kickoff was 55 degrees, with 14 mph winds out of the northwest. (Notre Dame is 13-2 all-time on Oct. 2.)

The Irish and Bearcats last played on Oct. 20, 1900. The Notre Dame Scholastic, South Bend Tribune and Indianapolis Journal reported the score as 56-0 in favor of the hosts at Cartier Field, while the Cincinnati Enquirer had the score at 57-0.

“Notre Dame’s backfield is very strong, that accounting for the big score against Cincinnati Saturday,” wrote The Detroit Free Press in its Oct. 24 edition. “But the line is in need of development, as the experience gained in recent games demonstrates that it will not hold against strong teams.”
