What Tom Brady thinks about the Patriots missing the playoffs - Pats Pulpit

The New England Patriots will not make the playoffs this year, the first time since 2008 that they have missed the tournament: their 22-12 loss against the Miami Dolphins in Week 15 pushed them to 6-8 on the season and officially out of postseason contention. Year One after Tom Brady therefore ends in disappointment for the organization.

As for the team’s legendary former starting quarterback, he is still in the playoff hunt after leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons — sound familiar? — on Sunday. He also was asked about New England after the game.

Always a diplomat, Brady did not go too far into discussing the Patriots’ playoff fortunes this year.

“As far as the Patriots, they have their own thing going,” he said during his postgame conference call with the Tampa Bay media. “I’ve really been focused on how my play needs to be at quarterback, the execution I need, and they’re not really an opponent of mine. Obviously, I have a lot of friends there, a lot of great relationships, but they’ve been focused on what they need to do and I’ve been trying to focus on what my job is.”

As New England’s starting quarterback, Brady led his old club to 17 playoff births and six Super Bowl titles. The 43-year-old decided to take his talents elsewhere earlier this year, however, and went on to sign a two-year pact with the Buccaneers.

Brady and the Patriots did not play this season, but they are scheduled to meet next year. At that point, he will have to talk about his ex-club. For now, though, he can continue to steer clear of any conversation about New England.
