1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Congrats Jacksonville, you have successfully tanked for Trevor Lawrence.
The Clemson quarterback has been the prized jewel for the past three years, and now he finally becomes draft eligible. Despite a Week 1 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Jaguars have now lost 14 straight games on the backs of three different starting quarterbacks. The time has come to get an actual starting quarterback in the black and teal.
Get the jerseys pre-ordered Jacksonville, this pick is about as locked in as they come.
2. New York Jets: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
The gap is closing on the race for QB2. Whether it is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, BYU’s Zach Wilson, or North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, the door is wide open as Fields has not found consistency in 2020. A great performance in the College Football Playoffs could change the narrative back towards the favor of Fields, but for now, the jury is still out.
As the New York Jets come on the clock, they still opt to make Fields their new franchise quarterback here. The former Heisman finalist has all of the tools: he has a great arm, elite accuracy at every level of the field, and has the play-strength and mobility to work outside of structure.
Processing and timing is a bit slow for Fields, but that is coachable while the tools are not. That is the draw to Fields, and that is why he lands with the Jets directly after Fields.
